Family Oriented Church in KC | The Blessed Place

< Back to Blog

We are a family oriented church in KC. We love the fact that we have every age range in our church. We believe in what God is doing at PCKC!

I’m going tp speak about a story that most of us have heard many times.  We have heard it so much that whenever it’s preached we can unconsciously tuneout because we think we have already know what’s going to be said.

This story is commonly known as The Prodigal Son.

As we jump into this parable  I  am going to ask you to prayerfully reserve judgement and hear me out. This next few weeks as we venture into uncharted waters I believe God will speak to you.  I also believe, if you allow the Holy Spirit to have His way, you will be able to view your life through new eyes.

Pray this with me now,

Father I really need you to speak to me.   I empty myself of any preconceived notions.  I open my ears and quiet my thoughts.  I confess I have been moving too fast through my walk with you and it’s been awhile since I have slowed down and just listened for Your voice.  I choose to do that now. Speak God. I’m ready to listen

Matt 15: 11-17

And he said, A certain man had two sons:

And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger.

In this parable the son did something out of the ordinary. He asked for his inheritance.  Most of the time this is interpreted as greed. I just don’t believe that.

This young man came from a wealthy family.  He had a home, clothes, and food in abundance.  He had need of nothing. This son did not want the blessings of the house. He already came from a blessed place.  This young man wanted to walk in Independence.  He wanted to do what he wanted, when he wanted, and how he wanted.

He had a restless spirit.

Many today are just not content where they are.  Ladies are constantly changing their hair.  We buy the latest phone and within a month we are already thinking about upgrading.

People can’t just sit still anymore.  We are constantly checking our social media, our notifications, our texts.

Many today are just resltess.

I see that spirit in the church. While the preaching is going on people are popping up going to the bathroom, checking their cell phones, or just fidgeting in their seats. You can tell their minds are not on what’s going on in service but they are already thinking about the next thing.

The devil wants to take advantage of that restlessness.  He wants to convince you the grass is greener somewhere else.  He plays on the fact that you are not content right where you are and starts whispering that blessing is to be had elsewhere.

As we go through this parable there is alot I want to say to you.  But today there is just one thing I want to leave you with.  One thing I want you to believe and declare over your life.

Do not quit!

We read this,

And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger.

The devil is always trying to get you to quit.  He wants you to believe that there is blessing to be had if your would just leave where you’re at.

But I want to declare to you that despite what it looks like you are in the blessed place already.  I urge you to come to yourself.  Wake up and tell the devil,

“I’ve changed my mind and I’m not going to listen to you!”

Go ahead, I dare you, say it out loud,

“I’ve changed my mind and I’m not going to listen to you!”

Today you just gave notice to the enemy that you’re not not going to let him pull you out of your blessed place.

I want you to keep declaring this until next week when I talk about…

“When God blesses you, you don’t have to worry about being cursed.”
